Welcome to Core Immune Health
Mushrooms, like the ones we eat, have been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years, especially in Asia.
Nowadays, scientists are interested in mushrooms because they contain many compounds that could be used to make new medicines, especially for diseases like cancer and autoimmune disorders.
Mushrooms produce various proteins with special abilities. Some of these proteins, like lectins and antifungal proteins, can help our bodies fight diseases.
Two well-known compounds from mushrooms are called Polysaccharopeptide (PSP) and Polysaccharide Krestin (PSK). These are made from a type of mushroom called Coriolus versicolor.
PSP and PSK have strong effects on the immune system and are sold as supplements. They've been used to treat infections and cancer.
PSK was discovered in Japan in the 1960s, while PSP was found in China in the 1980s. Both are made through a process where the mushrooms are fermented and then processed to extract the beneficial compounds.
The structure and composition of PSP and PSK are quite similar. They're made of both carbohydrates and proteins. PSP has more carbohydrates compared to PSK. These compounds have special linkages between their molecules that give them their unique properties. They contain various amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins.
PSK is officially approved in Japan as an adjuvant therapy for cancer, especially stomach, colorectal, and lung cancers. It is administered to support immune function and enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy.
In China, PSP, a widely used extract of the Turkey Tail mushroom, has been developed and studied for its immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and potential anti-cancer effects, making it popular in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to support the immune system, especially for patients undergoing cancer treatments.
We offer PSK and PSP individually, and for added convenience, we've developed a combined PSK and PSP formula for those who prefer taking both in one supplement.
Our journey with mushrooms began more than 15 years ago when we discovered the incredible polysaccharides in Coriolus Versicolor.
Our initial products are made solely from these ingredients. However, we're excited to announce that we'll be launching a variety of new products this year, including Lions Mane and Reishi and then Shiitake, Chaga, Cordyceps, Agaricus, and more. Stay tuned for updates! 🍄
